Designing one packaging system for a whole range

A single beautiful pack is easy to admire. A range of dozens has to work as a family. This is what the K-inam packaging job taught us about doing that.

Eight K-inam food packs side by side

A brief with a long list

K-inam is Kudumbashree's food brand. Kudumbashree's product brief listed 26 items: flat-bottom pouches in two sizes with tear-off zips, gift boxes and stickers. We worked on it in November and December 2025 as a student team incubated at LEAD Business Incubator, LEAD College. The brief was the start of the problem, not the solution.

Every pack carries a lot

Each pack needed the product name in Malayalam, Arabic and English, nutrition and ingredient panels, storage and allergen notes, and a QR code. The label text was supplied by Kudumbashree and the product units. Our job was layout: fitting all of it on a pack without it looking crowded.

A shared frame, a different personality

We gave each product its own colour and character. The K-inam mark and a shared layout stay constant, so the range holds together on a shelf. The rule we used is simple: fix what must be the same, and let everything else belong to the product.

The file is part of the design

Packaging is not finished until a printer can use it. We handed over print-ready, die-lined artwork, laid out flat with gussets and measurements. Printed samples were then produced and approved by Kudumbashree's own printer; we are not claiming the printing.

Revisions are normal

The files we still hold show several products in two to four dated revisions, from 11 November to 26 December 2025. That is how packaging usually goes: the product team spots something, the text changes, the layout follows. A system that survives edits is worth more than one that only looks good once.

What we can and cannot say

We hold print-ready artwork for more than a dozen products, but files for some products can no longer be found, so we do not claim a complete set. Only five products were shown at the launch. On 18 January 2026 the Malayalam daily Deshabhimani wrote about the packaging and named Polaroid Dosa.

What to take from it

Polaroid Dosa is a creative and digital marketing agency in Palakkad, Kerala, working with businesses worldwide on social media, ads, branding, films and websites.
